NEW ZEALAND TELEGRAMS.
(Per Press Association.) Wellington, October 2. A boy named Edward Dalton, son of Dalton, pork butcher, and who is employed as messenger at the Government Printing office, while sliding down the bannister in the Treasury buildings, dropped to the casement a distance of 30 feet. His nose and left wrist was smashed, and a hole knocked in his head above, the eyebrow. He was taken to the hospital where he died. Auckland. Oct. 1. The Chamber of Commence has passed the following resolutions :— That the Government be urged to return to the old system of telegrams, namely, urgent, ordinary and delayed, as those forms met the requirments of the public, and were entirely to their satisfaction. That this Chamber disapproves of the Master and Apprentice Bill as it now stands, as it is unworkable, and believes it would be detrimental to the young people of the Colony and the employers of labour. Mr Whitney said he had wired to the Premier stating that the passing of the Bill would mean the closing down of his factory. Woodville, This Day. Wm. Elliot, farmer, who last week lay in a paddock for fifty hours, died this morning. He had been in the district for over 20 years. Dunedin, This Day. Crawford Anderson contests the Bruce seat in the Ministerial interest. Mr Edie is accepted as the Ministerial candidate for Clutha.
