To Stand this season in the Feildiing ajsd Bangitikei DisTaicre, ( The Thoroughbred Horse, HANDSOME JACK . (Foaled 1890). HAiroSOMK JACK is a six-year" old, stoutly- built bay horse, standing 15 hands 2% inches high. As j his name indicates, he is a handsome . horse, tind so fashionably bred that he is well worthy the attention of breeders. The stoutest strains of the English and colonial, thoroughbred blood is blended in thi9 horse's pedigree. It wouid appear almost unnecessary to refer further than to his tabulated pedigree undermentioned, but the family he has de scended from are so rich in winning blood i hat the owner may be pardoned for just mentioning a few facts perhaps not gen» erally known. Handsome Jack is by St. Leger (the well-known winner- producing sire), whose stock have won in New Zealand since the soason 1895-6, eighty -one races, valued at £21.672. ; Radiant, who never raced, ia by that stoutly- bred sire Robinson Crusoe, whose mares are so highly thought of by Australian breeders, and as Radiant is from Radiance, this makes the dam of Handsome Jack full sister to those fast horses Quadrant and Cruiser (3ire of the R&ngitikei bred Lorelei). Robinaon Crusoe (sire of Radiant) is full brother to that stud s:em Onyx (dam of Wordenfeldt), and Radiance (dam of Radiant) is by Fireworks (sire of The Mute, who is sire of the Grand National Steeplechase winner. Vlutiny, and the Grand National Hurdle Race winner, Dummy, this year), while Sunshine (dam of Radiance), is also dam of Sunrise, a very successful stallion in >'ew Sotilh Wales. A glance at St. Hippc's pedigree, who is considered b? nood judges to be one of the best horses seen 11 New Zealand of late years, will -how that Hakdsomb Jack has really a better pedigree, as he 3hows the valuable strain of Maribyraong blood, which is absent; from St. Hippo's pedigree Both horses are closely related on blood lines. : I Bird- L „ , ! = The catcher^"-/" l\ Barc ° ... .Economist ; -! ;Echidna _ Mlss i *J| ;Glen oe Sul£a - i Z Pocahon I jTranipoline ' - cas L JMulev , '? iMarpessa c ,, r( .- --: U_' ... !O !and " Tou hstone , - 2 Tedding j Vulture ; Sj ton I MM Tw:ck- Ko kmf , ham ■ v S! j <^ ham E]e_tress '2 S i Kataa .Buzzard i .Daughter IDaughterof Pi ton ,~ Ol „ , JMelbourne ;- — Daughter ofiL, sb _ th ■-" : Pantaloon ; Castrel ~~ .=" i.i w «J- iWalia ' hour d — — _.
