FURTHER MASSACRE OF CHRISTIANS THREATENED MR GLADSTONE'S APPEAL TO THE FRENCH NATION. (Per Press Association.) London, Scptornbor 22. Mr C. W. Ritchie, President of the Board of Trade, expresses himself as highly pleased at the indignant outburst of public feeling iv Great Britain with regard to tho Armenian atrocities. Constantixopu-:, Sept. 2.3 It is reported that tho Sultan has arranged a massacre of Christians ifjthe fleet enters the Straits. 48 guus|froru the heights are ready to bombard Pera. The Turkish warships bave been cleared for action. Within a mouth 4000 Armenians have been massacred in Constantinople, aud 1000 are missing. 4000 escaped by the aid of the Consuls, while 20,000 were deported. Mr Gladstone, in a letter to the French people, states that the Armenian question has roused British feeling far beyond that of the Bulgarian atroci^ tics. The Powers, bo Kays, are pros*, trate at the Sultan's feet, but he hopes French policy will be worthy of a place in Christian history. Brisbane, This Day. The Baptist Association discussed the Armenion question and carried resolutions hoping the powers would put down the cruelty and misrule of the Sultan, and that God would speedily blight the influence of Turkish power.
