Hospital Board.

"• The ordinary meeting of the Palmerston Hospital Board was held yesterday. Present— Messrs Park (chairman), Kendall, Ooodbehere, Ransom, Lethbridge, Ravenhill, and Booth. The following correspondence was received :— From Messrs Harris and Taylor, with apologies for non-attendance. From the Polo Club, with cheque for £12 Os 9d, net proceeds of the benefit entertainment. The Board decided in reference to a letter from the Audit Department dealing with a sum'of j£2254 owing by patients since the opening of the institution, that the Secretary should go into the list and report at nest meeting what amounts were recoverable. The audit officer suggested in the letter that the amount should be written off, but this the Board was averse to doing, more especially as the Secretary reported that several of the amounts included in the aggregate were being reduced by small payments. Correspondence was receiyed from the Prison Department with reference to a man named R. Stanley, who had been several times committed for vagrancy, stating he was not a fit subject for a prison, and suggesting on his release from prison he be placed on the Charitable Aid list. — The Board decided to give effect to the suggestion. Wiltshire Bequest.— Receipt from estate, LI 100 ; Government subsidy, L 50 0; total, LI6OO. The various local bodies expended aa follows :— Halcombe Town Board, LlOl 4s 8d ; Feilding Borough Council, LllO Is lOd ; Manchester Road Board, L 147 18s 9d; Kiwitea County Council, LSI 15s; Foxton Borough Council, L 27 16s 8d ; Manawatu County Conncil, L2l I9s lOd ; Charitable Aid Board, L 254 12s 9d. Statement of assets and liabilities on March 31, 1896:— Assets— Cash on current account at Bank of New Zealand, Li's' 67 9s 4d ; cash on hand, L 5 ; hospital reserves at Terrace End, L 13 5; building and land, L 450 0; furniture and effects, L 700; surgical instruments, drags and stores, L 250 ; proportion of cost eft sewerage works payable by Pal merston Borough Council, L 285 16s lid ; maintenance of patients recoverable, L 15 0; of children at Industrial Schools recoverable, L2B 10i ; total, L63UI 16s 3d.
