SIX THOUSAND SLAUGHTERED CHRISTIANS. (Per Presa Association.! Constantinople Sept. 2. The Sultan is greatly concerned at the refusal of the Embassies to carry out the usual illuminations, and points out the bad effect the refusal is likely to have on the troops. The Ambassadors have replied to the effect that any rejoicings would be out of place after the rceent terrible outrages. The Embassies state that in the recent massacre 6000 Armenians were slaughtered here. London, September 2. The British Mediterranean squadron has been ordered to the Levant. Sir Phillip Currie, British Ambassador at Constantinople, returns there immediately Austria, Germany, and Russia, are displaying greater sympathy with the policy of the Marquis of Salisbury in compelling the Sultan to carry out the reforms in Turkey.
