The Petone Tragedy.
(Prr Press Association.) Wellington, September 2. In the course ot Stephen Bosher's evidence at the inquest he stated thatwhen he went to Jones' shop a little after seven o'clock on the same night of the murder, there were two men on the verandah facing Jackson-street and they were there when be left one was very tall, wearing a soft felt hat, and the other a short man with a cap. He could not properly see their faces. The accused Shore was shorter than the tall man, and the short man wore a beard. Some parcels were lying at their feet one of which he took to be a swag. This Day. Shore was before the S.M. Court to day when evidence was taken at length. The witness, Bosher, was subjected to considerable cross-examination as to his movements before and after the murder. At the lunch adjournment Mr Wilford asked it' the accused would be allowed out on bail, saying he could procure the thousand pounds security in five mm* utes, but the application was refused. It is said there are 30 witnesses for the defence.
