Meeting at Bunnythorpe.

A meeting of ratepayers in the No. 5 ward, Manchester Road district, Bunnythorpe, was held in tbe Bunnythorpe Public Hall ou Weduesday, August 26, to discuss the proposal of tbe Manchester Road Board to raise a loan of .£l5O for the purpose of regrading and widen ing formation of Proctor's bill on the Bunnythorpe Kairanga Road. The warden, Mr W. G. Pearce, occupied tbe chair. It was proposed by Mr Scbeidt, seconded by Mr Henson, Tbat tbis meeting approves of tbe proposal of tbe Manchester Road Board to raise a loan of £150 for the purpose of regrading and wideniug formation of Proctor's bill and that a poll be taken. — Carried. Other matters of interest to ratepayers were discussed informally. Mr Matheson said be thought tbe ratepayers on this side of tbe Oroua river should attend the annual meeting of ratepayers to be held in May next and ask ior a redistribution of seats, so as to have three members on each side of the river instead of four on one side and two on tbe otber as at present, the valuation of Nos. 5 and 6 was more than half with only two members. Mr Maxwell thought it was a shame the way tbe roads were being cut to pieces by the heavy timber waggons, and said that something should be done to make the timber trade contribute a fair share towards maintaining the roads. Mr Pearce said a motion would come before the next meeting of the Road Board with a view of imposing a tax of .£24 yearly on timber waggons, this tax would amount to about one r>enny per hundred feet, varying eitber more of less according to distance. Mr Pearce said if his motion was thrown out it would be absolutely necessary to increase the rate next year so as to enable tbe Board to keep pace with tho wear aud tear geing on at present. Witb regard to tbe Gorge Bridge, Mr Scbeidt said tbo settlers in tbat part of the district wore opposed to tbe Board undertaking the reconstruction of tbe bridge.
