(Per Press Association.) Dannevirke, This Day. A child named George Cowley, 2 years and five months old, fell into an uncovered well and was drowned. GrsBORNE, August 21. There was a very respectable show of poultry at the Gisborne Poultry Fanciers' Club's third annual show which opened to-day. All classes were well represented there being some 300 exhibits. Buff Cochins were a feature of the show, Mr Hay wood, of Auckland being the principal prize-taker. There was a good display of Langshans, for which Mr Fawcett and Mr Dawson took most prizes. Chbistchcech, August 23. 1 Mr C, B. Mason's office at Amberley has been broken into on Friday night and the safe carried into an adjoining section and forced open, and Lls in eaßh were stolen. A sharp shock of earthquake was experienced at 4.45 this morning. Wellington, August 23. The Union steamer Waihi, which had been stranded near Blenheim for some days, was floated off last night and arrived here at 1 30 this afternoon. The little vessel does npt appear to have sustained much damage, but will be placed on the Patent Slip for inspection.
