The Colonial Secretary states the principal result of the Conference was to enable the southern colonies to ascertain the true facts in order to allay any unreasonaple panic. Personally, be said, the proceedings had fortified hisowa opinion that Queensland would have to play a lone band, and that it was advisable to establish a Stock Institute for the colony. They could not expect much help from the other colonies, and the proper course, therefore, would be to establish an Institute with the very best talent the world could provide. He had hoped this would have been a federal matter, but the observations at the Conference taught him otherwise.
