Tbe weather is magnilicent, and the attendance very large. The course is in tip-top condition. Tbe new members' stand was opened for the first time. Results : — First Hunters' Hurdles— Silver King, 1 ; Sam, 2 ; War Dance, 3. Wild Irish man fell. Won easily by two lengths. Time, 3min 13£-sec. Dividend, £10 2s. Maiden Hurdles— Social Pest, 1 ; Docility, 2; Lobo, 8. Time, Bmio 47 3 ssec. Dividend, £11 13s. Tbe Colonial Secretary informs me that he has decided to prant two totalisa* tor permits to the Manawatu Racing Club, one to the Asharst Club, and one to the Palmerston Trotting Club.— Standard correspondent. Tbe Committee of the Hawke's Bay Jockey Club has reported to the annual meeting that it considers it absolutely essential to the welfare of racing that j a governing body should be established to conserve its interests, and to whom tbe persons interested should have the right to appeal, as resource to law conrts was now barred. It was agreed that the matter should be bropgbt forward at the racing conference atCliristchnrch in November/
