(Per Press Association.) Wellington, This Day. Addressing the Grand Jury at the opening of the Supreme Conrt tbis morning Chief Justice Prendergast made only a brief and colorless, reference to tbe Kirby case. Witb regard to the charge against Bassett he said tbe Jury should bring in a true bill if they were satisfied he knew ol tbe committal of tbe oftence with which Kirby was charged. Referring to the charge of criminal libel against Mr Cassidy, manager, and Ashboult, publisher of the New Zealand Times, he said if the Jury were satisfied the paragraph was defamatory and that the accused were responsible for its appearance they should return a true bill.
