The Australians, despite their bad start, put up the fine total of 367 :—Gre- | gory 60, Hill not out 118, Trumble 22, j Kelly 44, Jones 23, McKibbin 5, extras 5. I Hay wood took 5 wickets for 112, Rich* ardson 3 for 124, Abel 1 for 29. When the stumps were drawn for the day, Surrey had lost two wickets for 12. — Brockwell 5, Baldwin 2, Abel not out 3. July 29. Darling hit seven fours. Gregory, who gave one chance, registered one hit for nine (four of which were for an over- [ throw), one five, and seven fours. Hill and Kelly knocked up 95 in 80 minutes. The former batted three hours, and had one hit for eight (including two for an overthrow, and 16 fours. The Surrey wickets fell in the first half hour, owing to bad light. The attendance was again very large to-day. The weather i« perfect and the wicket playing excellently. The champion County's batting underwent a comparative collapse and all were out for 147 of which Hayward made 01 and Abel 63. The other scores ■were Leyesou-Gowec 0, Smifch 0, Lockwood 4, Wood 7, Read 12, Richardson not out 0. Holland was absent, extras 4. Abel and Hayward played a fine game and raised the total to 123 when the latter was smartly c&ught by Gregory. After this came a complete collapse, Jones and McKibbin apparently being unplayable. Gower and Abel went at 124, Smith at 128, Lockwood at 139, Wood and Read at 147, Holland was ill. The Australians with only 64 to get have so far lost 1 wicket for 4.
