" Popping the Question."

On Tuesday evening the Rev. J. Cocker delivered his exceedingly popular lecture on "Popping the question " in the Primitive Methodist Church. Lectures are mostly looked upon as being dry and the audiences at lectures as a rule are small, but on Tuesday evening the audience was a large one, and though the lecturer spoke for an hour and a half the interest was maintained to the last sentence, the applause being frequent and prolonged, the lee* turer having to wait some time before he could proceed. The lecture was marked by humour, wit and sound common sense and was delivered in a genial, free and easy style. Both the humourous and grave sides of the question were dealt with and it is to be hoped that the young people will act upon the advice given. Mr Greenwood suitably presided over the meeting. The lecture is to be given in other parts of the district, Cheltenham on Monday, and Colyton on Thursday next, and there is a treat in store for those who are fortunate enough to be there. At the close of the lecture refreshments ware banded round.
