Pollard's Opera Company.
11 PAUL JONES." " Paul Jones," the opera in which this popular combination will commence their season on Friday, July 31st, is acknowledged by critics as being tbe most tuneful of modern works. Tbe music is bright and catchy, the plot unique, while the libretto fairly bristles with good things, many of them being almost worthy of a Gilbert. The scenery, dresses, and effects are, according tr> contemporary criticism, equal, if not superior, to anything yet seen in the colony. Mr Pollard is famed for tbe manner in which be stages his operas, his attention to detail being something marvellous. His motto bas always been " If a thing is worth doing, do it well." This be faithully carries out, no expense being spared to make the performance a success. The result of this is that at the present time there is no company touring the colonies so well received as this one. When we come to find out that Mr Pollard has, during the last live years, played in Wellington 31 weeks, Auckland 27, Christchurch 24, and Dnnedin 16, then we begin to realise the wonderful hold this clever company bas on the New Zealand public. On Saturday evening the company will produce Lscocq's world famed "Girofle Girofla." This popular company are sure to have a bntnper house on both nights as an audience has never yet been disappointed by the pieces they have staged.
