The Australians are all oat for the moderate total of 202, of which the captain contributed more than a- half, this being his third century. The M.C.C. made a good start, Stoddart playing a fine innings, and was well seconded by MacLaren, who is still in. July 24. When the club went in Jones and Trumble were the first pair of bowlers, but Stoddart and McLaren found no difficulty with them, and put up 96 for the first wicket. Stoddart played brilliantly and never gave a chance. He made his runs in 63 minutes. McKibben and Giffen were tried when Jones and Tramble failed, and the latter got rid of Stoddart. Rangitsin»hi was caught when the score was at 97. McLaren gave one chance after that to Jones, who nearly caught him at the second attempt from a hard high return. The wicket remained fiery when the M.C.C. with 2 wickets down for 119 resumed their second innings, and the last wicket fell with the total at 367, or 165 ahead of the visitors.
