AUSTRALIANS v. M.C.C. AND GROUND.
(Per Press Association) London, July 28. At Lord's to-day the Australians began the return match against the M.C.C. and Ground. The Home team is— Stoddart, Smith, Pougher, Attewell, Woodcock, Gunn, Hearne, Board, Wynyard, McLaren, and Rangitsinghi. Eady, John 9, and Graham are standing out of the Colonial team. The Weather is fine and the attendance good. The wicket is fiery. The Australians batted first and at the luncheon adjournment the score was as follows: — j Iredale, c Wynyard b Hearue ... 0 Giffen, b Woodcock 2 Darling, c Stoddart b Woodcock ... 6 Gregory, c Stoddart b Woodcock ... 0 Donnan, c Board b Smith ... ... 20 Hill, c McLaren b Woodcock ... 15 Trott, not out 73 Extras 6 Total for 6 wickets 122 Iredale was caught in the slips off tbe second ball in tbe match, and in tbe next over Giffen fell a victim to the Leicester professional. Darling was dismissed with the total at 12 and Gregory followed 4 runs later— Doth taken at coyer slip. Donnan, who with Trott made a capital stand, was out with the score at 79. Trott was missed at the wickets when his score was 24. (Per Press Association) Dunedin. July 23. ! In view of the visit of the Australian cricketers the committee of the Otago Cricket Association met to-night and decided to give the required guarantee to the New Zealand Cricket Council for the match with Otago.
