Ashurst Progressive Association.
A meeting under the auspices of the Ashurst Progressive Association was held in the Theatre Royal on Wednesday afternoon. Present — Messrs Ramble (chairman), Sanders, Clarke, Vincent, Piercy. Gallicban, Williams, Fnrniss, Bimmer, Dickon, Clapham, Freeman, and Taylor. A letter was received from Mr Thomas, Warden No 6 Ward Manchester Road Board, requesting that he be excused for his unavoidable absence. A thorough explanation was given as to the prrobable cost, etc., of making the road through Warne's and Akers' property over the range to Woodvillle ; also the advantages of the proposed road over the present one. It was decided that a deputation consisting of Messrs Sanders and Gallicban wait upon the Manchester Boad Board on Saturday, August Ist, to approach them upon the following : — (1) To ascertain if the road as shown between the properties of Messrs Coffer and Whitehead is still under the control of the Board, and if so, would the Board be prepared to sell the same and place the receipts of the sale towards the making of a more convenient road higher up. (2i That the Board be asked to make the road on the other side of the Pohangina river through Mr W. Akers' property as far as the eastern boundary of their district It was decided that the committee as appointed on Monday night interview Mr Warne re the cost ©Hand for a road. The usual vote of thanks being carried the meeting terminated.—Standard.
