(Per Press Association). Christchurch, July 23. Peter Cunningham, a well-known grain merchant, and representative of Shaw, Saville and Co., died to-day after an illness lasting some weeks. Death was due to dropsy and heart disease. A man named Harrison Hammond, 65 years of age, a dealer in old died suddenly in Kempt home Prosser's yard to-day. He appears to have broken a blood vessel internally. Nelson, July 23. Walter B. Thomson, a member of the Waimea County Council, who had been committed for trial on two separate charges of forging an endorsement to a cheque and stealing a sheep, died this morning after a "hort illness. He was to have come before the Snpreme Court next Wednesday. Auckland, Jnly 23. In the alleged sly grog casea in the King Country, Mobr and Bennett, who pleaded gmlty, were fined £10 each and costs. Proctor pleaded not guilty, stating the ca3e was a trumped up one. The decision was reserved. The case against Peissy was withdrawn and that against Hetets is now proceeding. The Crown Lands Commissioner, Mr Mueller, has gone to Wellington to a meeting of the Representation Commission. Archie McKee, concerned in the Te Aroha sensation, was committed to the Asylum. New Plymouth, This Day. A shop occupied by Mr Kendall, draper, was burglarised on Thursday night, and £1 8s and a quantity of clothing taken. Skeleton keys were used.
