The Feilding Star, Oroua & Kiwitea Counties Gazette. Published Daily. MONDAY. JULY 13, 1896. THE MONEY MARKET.
The New Zealand Trade Review for this month reports that the tendency throughout these colonies is still in the direction of increasing ease. The" supply of money is full and the difficulty of finding satisfactory investment increases rather thaa otherwise. The banking position in Australia becomes graduaiiy more and more settled and stable. All sound investment shares are eagerly sought for, and, best news of any, investors are still turning tbeir attention to some extent, to real estate. Tiie general statement of tbe Post Office Savings Bank shows for the year 1895— Total deposits £2,---794,506 16s, withdrawals £2,369,333 6s Id, excess of deposit £425,173 9s 5d 'The year 1894 showed an excess of withdrawals of £15,762 15s; 1893 an excess of deposits £263,567 13s lid. Colonial consols do not seem to become
popular. In addition to the £150,000 taken up by the Bank of New Zealand * only £11,390 seems to have been ap- J plied for by the public ; £8,026 to the } 31st March, 1895, and £3,365 during j the financial year which has just closed, j
