♦ [from our. own cobbespojtoeht.] I regret having to report that a considerable amount of damage was done to property and fences here by the last flood in the river. Some of the lowlying I land was completely covered, and in some places not a blade of grass can be seen owing to the quantity of silt deposited. The water was several feet deep on the fiats. I see that Mr Hopkins is having several acres of land stumped and cleared ready for the spring crops. The factory ceased work last Wednesday but will start again in about a Mr J. M. Durling has leased his property at a satisfactory figure. He is leaving the district, having undertaken to plant a large orchard at Johnsonville where he will reside for the f nture. He will take with him the best wishes of all his neighbours. The sale of township sections will take place on Tuesday, 4th August in Palmerston North. Lithograph plans will be available shortly and may then be obtained from Mr Welsh at the school. I Mr D. Sinclair was to have inspected the proposed sites for the sbeep bridge on Friday, 26th June, bnt owing to the floods in the Oroua river he was unable to come over.
