Ashubst, July 3. Dragging operations for the body of Mr Lawson bas been going on since daybreak. Mr J. Cotter kindly lent bis boat to Constables Franklin, Breen, aud Detective Bishop. The Pohangina river from the bridge to the first rapid was dragged several times unsuccessfully. The searchers are now trying the Manawatu. The drop trom the bridge to tbe river is about 40 feet. The opinion of a great number of people is that the body is caught in one of the numerous snags at the foot of the bridge. If the body is not recovered to-night searching will start at daybreak tomorrow. Word has been received from Pohangina tbat the river is rismg slightly. Some of the deceased'b relatives are expected here to-morrow. [Tbe late Mr Lawson who was killed at tbe Pohangina bridge on Thursday last was a son of Mr Lawson, Official Assignee of Auckland, who is yet alive and well. In error it was stated that tbe father had been killed in a similar manner in the South Island. |
