In the House last evening the second reading of the following Bills was agreed tor-Canterbury College, Female Law Practitioners, and Deceased Husbands Brother's Marriage. Tbe Criminal Code Act Amondment Bill was committed. Upwards of two hours' discussion took place upon the scope of the Bill. Eventually an amendment, moved by the Pre- I mier, to make the Bill apply only to | Chemis, who should have leave to apply for a new trial within twelve months, was carried by 27 to 15. The Criminal Code Bill was reported as amended. Sir R. Stout's " limitation of power of disposition by will bili" and his Criminal Code Act Amendment Bill (making incest a penal offence) were read a second time on the voices. The Removal of Women's Disabilities Bill was killed in committee by 23 to 17. The House rose at 12.15 a.m.
