♦ (Per Press Association). Wellington. July 1. The annual Poultry Show was opened to-day by the Governor. Tbe entries are not so numerous as last year, but the quality is quite up to the previous standard. The Ballance challenge trophy, valued at SOgs, for the most points in Langshans, was won by F. Rogen, of Wellington. J. Buckrell, of Wanganni, bad won the trophy on two occasions and only required to win this time to secure it outright, but he failed. The Gazette issued to-night gives a list of teachers holding certificates or licenses under tbe Education Act. A telegram bas been received that Jules Wilson dropped dead at Te Puke, Waioroneomai. This Day. The Trades Council passed a resolutions supporting tbe Government in its action re the Asiatio Restriction Bill, and suggesting the term of the Legislative Councillors should be only five years. Dunedin. July 2. • William Johns, a young man, was drowned at the head of Lake Wanaka while trying to get ashore from a timber raft.
