Prohibition in Clutha.
o A story is current to the effect that since Prohibition has been carried in the Clutha district those requiring liquor have clubbed together, and ordered the desired quantity in barrels from the brewers. The liquor was generally consigned to one address, and to prevent talk the address was usually "X.Y.Z., Balclutha railway station." Some time back an expressman was asked to convey tne barrels to their respective destinations. His eyes opened wide with astonishment as he read the labels of a whole row of casks, and, scratching his bead in a perplexed manner, was heard to exclaim in his own peculiar manner : " Good gaga-gracious ! whowho-on earth is ex-ex X, wy-wy-Y.Z ? I knoknow Clutba's bab-bab-bad enough, but I never thought we had such a tut-tut-tough one amongst us I" — Taieri Advocate. „________
