The Committee of the Manawattt Rugby Union met at Palmerston on Saturday night, and decided that a trial match should take place on Wednesday afternoon at Palmertston. The following teams were selected :— Probables — J. Matravers, Richards, Hewitt, A. Keeling. Prendergast, Shannon, Stewart, Peirin, Eyre, J. Johnston, D. Matbeson, Smith, Shadbolt, Desmond, Whiff en. Possibles— H. W. Giesen, P. Giesen, Matheson, McMinn, Jack, J. Bush, McDonnell, Wishart, D. Whisker, E. Nash, W. Pyke, A. W. Bell, H. Bilderbeck, J. De Lnen, F. Newtb. Emergencies— J, Hewitt, H. Weight, R. Matheson, E. Sharman, B. Whisker. It is particularly requested that all members picked should attend as the final selection will be made at the trial match ; any players unable to do so are to let the secretary know at once. The Palmerston Club defeated the Wanganui Collegiate team on Saturday by 11 points to 6. In tbe junior contest the Pirate II defeated Palmerston II by 13 points to nil. The following team will represent the Red Stars against Awahuri on Wednesday next, at Awahuri: — Fullback, W. Allen ; three-quarters, McNiccol, J. and W. Smith; five-eighth, B. Parkes; half, Hurdle; forwards, Evans, Aitken, Jos. Smith, Rosoman, Morris, Walton, A. a,nd D. Foster, McMillan. The drag will leave the Square at 2 o'clock. Tbe following team will play for Awahuri in their match against the Red Stars, at Awahuri next Wednesday :— Backs— Cole, McMnrray, Lucas, Mends, Mann, lsherwood ; forwards, G. Mends, Stuart, E. Bennett, O'Reilly (2), Wliisker, Dermer, Weigbtman, Flynn. T. Stuart and W. Bennett, emergencies. Play will start at 2.30. The junior match Kanhanganui v. Rongotea, which should have been played on Satnrday, was postponed until later in the season. • On Saturday last Rongotea defeated a team from Foxton by 20 points to nil. The match Colyton v. Birmingham, played at Colyton on Saturday, resnlted in a draw. T. Hall and Fraser scored a try each for Birmingham, while P. Smith and Stewart scored tries for Colyton. None of tbe tries were converted. The Ruahine team defeated Cheltenham on Saturday by five points to nil. Spooner Bcored the try, which was converted. Marton defeated Ohingaiti by 5 points to nil. The Feilding and Foxton seniors will meet at Palmerston on Saturday. Mr Holmes' survey camp having broken up for the remainder of the winter, Mr A. Jack, a prominent member of the Feilding senior team, returned to Feilding last week.
