Prohibition Convention.

The Prohibition Convention resolved that unless provision requiring half the electors to vote at licensing polls in the districts where there is no Parliamentary contest is repealed, the Council recommends that no seats be uncontested ; tbat independent of politics no candidate for the forthcoming Parliamentary elections will be satisfactory to tbe Prohibition party who is not a sincere supporter of their platform ; that Government be urged j to appoint a Royal Commission of enquiry j into the police administration, also of inspection of breweries; tbey also urge the substitution of elective for party executive. The Convention also carried a large number of amendments considered necessary to the licensing laws. This Day. The Prohibition Convention hes decided to ask the Otaki Licensing Committee to refuse a license to a certain hotel in the district on the ground of alleged mismanagement. It was also decided to put the following questions to candidates at the next election : — Would you support legislation giving the people power to control ox suppress the liquor traffic, including supplying clubs, by a majority of votes cast at the polls ? Would you support legislation to give the people power by the votes of a majority at the polls to prohibit the manufacture, importation, and sale, of intoxicating liquor throughout the colony ? The Council endorsed the concensus of opinion expressed throughout the colony by their supporters that the right .policy of Temperance voters at the local 'Option poll is to strike out the top line only on the voting paper. , i The Convention is closed. ~ < >
