The Stock Market.
Messrs Abraham and Williams report : — We have to report holding sales at Colyton, Awahuri and Palmerston for the past week. At the former on Tuesday an average number of cattle were yarded, the enquiry limited and the demand weak. Sheep, in full supply, maintained late rates and sold freely. The entries at Awahuri on Wednesday were moderate and the bulk disposed of. Yesterday at Palmerston a substantial entry of sheep came forward. A brisk demand existed and prices firm at quotations. Beyond a pen of fat cattle the entry was practically ml. Colyton— Store wethers, 9s to 9a 7d; empty ewes, 5s to 6s 9d ; breeding ewes, 7s 6d ; fat ewes, 7s 4d to 7s lOd ; good lambs, 6s ; medium, 3s lid to 4s lOd ; small weaners. 12s 6d ; others, 18s ; 2|year heifers in calf, £2 15s. Awahuri— Ewes in lamb, 5s 3d to 5s 6d ; store wethers, 8s 9d ; 3£-year empty heifers, £2 17s fid ; yearlings, 265 ; small weaners, 12s 6d. Palmerston — Fat bullocks, £6 8s ; store wethers, 8s lOd to 9s 6d ; forward do, 10s 6d ; empty ewes, 6a to 7s 6d ; fat ewes, 8s 6d to 9s ; breeding ewes, 7s 3d to 7s lOd ; culls, 3s 3d ; lambs, 4s 9d. fPer Press Association. Christchurch, This Day. There was a good attendance at the i AddiDgton market yesterday, and entric, ' were fairly large. Business was goods ! especially in sheep, all fit for export meeting with eager competition. Fat cattle— Steers £5 to £8 15s, heifers £5 12s 6d to £7 15s, cows £3 17s 6d to £6 12s 6d, prime beef 17s to 19s per 1001 b, and inferior and cow beef 13s to 17s. Dairy cattle— Ordinary sorts of dairy cows £3 10s to £5, extra good ones £9. Fat sheep — There was a large yarding, including a fair proportion of freezing lines. Tha market opened firm at last week's rates, and strengthened as the sale progressed. For sheep, fit for export, prices were : Best freezing wethers 16s to 18s, fair to good 14s to 15s 9d, mixed sexes 14s 6d to 17s, maiden ewes for freezing 14s to 15s, butchers' heavy ewes 12s to 15s, good ewes 10s to Its 9d, inferior 8s to 9s, merino wethers 8s 9d to 13s. Store sheep — Most demand was shown for lambs of all descriptions, and sound forward turnip-fed sheep, enquiry also being made tor breeding ewes. Lambs sold at 8s to 9s for forward sorts, lighter 6s to 7s, turnip wethers sound on the feet 11s to 13s, 2-tooth breeding ewes 9s 6d. There were only a few pens of fat lambs in, and these met with keen competition. Freezers 10s to 12s, and one extra line 13s. About 300 pigs were yarded, and for these there was a good market. Baconers 80* to 495, porkers 17b to 26s 6d, stores 9s 6d to 235.
