Upper Pohangina Notes.

.». Owing to the number of bosh and road contracts at present in progress iv this district a great number of men are employed, therefore we have ho unemployed. Trade in general is brisk, and gives promise to continue so for some time. Considering the weather we have had of late, our roads are in fair order. Several of them have received a patching up in the worst places. The road through the Totara Reserve is now metalled throughout, except the Bluff. When this part is re-made the Valley road will be accessible from the Ferry road to Digger's Greek without haying occasion to ford the river. Our County Oouncil was asked at . their last meeting to suggest a name for the post office that is to be opened near Bartholomew's mill ; but the matter did not seem to affect the members, except Councillor Fraser, therefore it lapsed. I should think that the name of the proprietors of the mill would be a very acceptable name for a township in that vicinity, there* ~ I suggest that our post office be called .4 II Bartholomew." Mr J. Collinson has sub-leased Mr • Watchorn's section, fronting the Beehire Ravine, from Mr J. Harrison. Mr and Mrs F. Richards intend leaving early next month for a trip to America. Messrs Rimmer and Craven, whodo most of the up-river business, opened their new store at the mill this week. This will be a boon to the settlers in the Salisbury and Delaware Blocks, as they will now be able to procure any necessaries in much less time, now that a store is within a mile or two of them. v Most of the settlers here are possessed of an abundance of feed for their stock this winter, and the mortality amongst the lambs has . been far short of any of the previous winter death rates, so far.— Standard.
