Fire in Christchurch.
(Per Press Association.) Chkistchurch, This Day. A fire broke out last night in a block of wooden buildings in Hereford street. The fire apparently originated in the premises of Acland, Dudley and Co., and before it was extinguished it had completely gutted their building, together with those occupied by T. J. Mating, Cook and Gray, Canterbnry Insurance Protection Association, Duffy (solicitor), and the offices used by Bowman aud Harding. Considerable damage was done to the furniture in Bowman's auction room. The bulk of the buildings were owned by Miles and Co.'s estate, and were erected in 1863. Later. The buildings burned were insured for £1000 in the Alliance ; Bowman's auction rooms for £1000 in the same office; Cook and Gray, £250 in the National ; Duffy, law library, etc., £100 in the Manchester; Maling, furniture and samples, £50 in the South British ; Bowman also had £200 in the Imperial, and .£2OO in the Standard.
