The Feilding Star, Oroua & Kiwitea Counties Gazette Published Daily. WEDNESDAY, JUNE 3, 1896. SUPREME COURT AT PALMERSTON NORTH.

The attempts of the Palmersfcon authorities to get Supreme Court sittings held in that town should be looked on with considerable favor by every resident withiu, say, thirty miles. Not only would the colony save money but the settlers and all connected with such sittings would be spared the loss of much valuable time and expense. But there is another advantage, and that is ttie jury list would be much extended, and the interests of justice thereby further .protected. It is notorious that the limited number of jurors in the large centres where Supreme Court sittings are held, has led to failures of justice in too many instances. It has been said that "jurors are the same all over the world "and with some degree of truth, no doubt, but there are jurors, and in '* country cases, country jurors " are the best, not only from their special knowledge but from the fact that they are more independent in character, while their surroundings are apt to be of a more elevating nature than obobtains in the case of town jurors. We are quite aware this opinion is open to dispute or debate, but that notwithstanding it is the result of the experience of men high in the law in the Old Country. We hope, therefore, the efforts of our Palmerston neighbours will be successful.
