Fire on the Ruahine.

Q SPONTANEOUS COMBUSTION. (Per Press Association.)! Wemjnoton, May 22. A fire broke out in the wall of the refrigerating chamber of the steamer Ruabine this afternoon. It is believed to be from spontaneous combustion. The fire was extinguished shortly after discovery, and only very slight damage was done, but a portion of the wall was torn down to discover the cause of the firs. Frank Corbett, refrigerating engineer, in crossing over the engines to get to the scene of the fire, was caught in the mac- • hinery and had his leg broken. The suf< ferer was removed to the' hospital. The vessel had 7000 legs of mutton from the Wellington Meat Export Company in the chamber at the time, and these have been sent ashore. The Buahine will leave for Lyttelton to-night or to-morrow.
