Death of Sir Patrick Buckley.
(Par Press Association.) Wellington, May 18. Justice Sir Patrick Buckley died at his residence, .Lower Hutt, at 3.40 this afternoon. For some time past the deceased gentleman had been ailing in health, and a few days ago, acting on the instruction of his medical adviser, , he gave up temporarily, it was thought, his duties on the Supreme Court Bench, , in order to secure rest and medical treatment. At first he rallied and daily improved in health, but a couple of days ago ho was taken worse, and, gradually sinking, passed away at 3.40 this afternoon. Lady Buckley, the Premier, the Colonial Treasurer, Minister for Lands, Rev. Father Devoy, llev. Dr Watters, Rev. Father Lane, and' Mr "\V. A. Fitzherbei't (brother-in-law) were at the bedside. The deceased gentleman was born in County Cork in 1811, and married a daughter of the late Sir William Fitzherbert, who survives him, but there is no family. Sir Patrick was suffering from a heart trouble orginally, then acute pneumonia intervened, and as he was too weak to withstand its effects it carried him off. When on the last Supreme Court Circuit jn the Marlborough and Nelson districts, he was none too well, and the rough passage on the return from Blenheim to Wellington effected him seriously. This Day. When the Appeal Court resumed this morning, the Chief Justice made feeling reference to the death of Sir Patrick Buckley. Mr Jellicoe. as a member of the bar, also made brief reference.
