Captain Russell addressed a crowded meeting at Pnhiatua last evening, and received a vote of thanks. Messrs Wood and Judkins announce that they will hold their usual auction sale on Saturday at 1.30 p.m sharp, aud that they will offer iv addition to produce, etc., a large collection of vases and ornaments. ! From an " inset " which appears in ' today's issue it will he seen that a clear - auce sale is being held at A. Alford's Novelty Depot, and will be continued for fourteen days, the proprietor having decided to retire from business iv Feilding. A discount of 50 per cent will be allowed off all fancy goods, and 25 per cent (uot 50 per cent as stated in the inset owing to a printer's error) off all plain goods. A social was held in the Wesleyan Church Sunday School room last evening, being promoted by the Rev Mr Harrison, the newly appointed minister, with a view to becoming better acquainted with his congregation. The room was prettily ai-rauged with chairs and coaches as a drawing room, and there was a very fair attendance. Refreshments were provided by Mrs Carthew, assisted by other ladies, and a very enjoyable evening was spent. With respect to these social gatherings we understand it is Mr Harrison's intention to inaugurate a boy's club, and a meeting will be held iv the Wesleyan School room on Saturday afternoon with that object. Mr F. DeLitfle announces in our advertising column that he will produce the musical extravaganza entitled" The Carnival," at the Assembly Rooms tomorrow night. Mr DeLisle has got together a good professional company which includes Miss Glair Delmar, Miss Florence Yauc, Miss B Ilinks, Mr Riley, Mr (jL-rald Shaw, and Messrs Blake and Power, late of the Francis Ross Dramatic Company. Mr DeLisle intends to tour the small provincial towns with some of his own dramas preparatory to their presentation in the big cities of Australasia. It is his intention to stage his mining melodrama ' The Trump Card," in Feildiug ou Queen's Birthday night or before if the scenery can be painted iv lime. Lovers of melodrama will be afforded a treat by the production. The Company will appear at Cheltenham on Saturday night next.
