The United States and Cuba.
(Per Press Association.^ Madrid, May 12. The Premier admits that the Cuban rebellion must result in autonomy being granted. Mere reform would be useless. The United States Government again demands an indemnity for the planters. The Spanish Council will finally determine the sentences of the prisoners. Queen Christina in her speech at the opening of the Cortes, said she recognised Cleveland's loyal friendship despite the unfriendly efforts of a section of the American public. The rebellion in Cuba is declining, bnfc aid from abroad prevented it from being thoroughly quelled. New York, May 13. The Spanish Government has agreed to a fresh trial of the Competitor's crew by the ordinary court, and the difficulty between the two countries may be reoarr\r\i\ as settled.
