A pamphlet entitled " Character sketches of some well known church members " from tbe pen of the Rev. J. Cocker, is now advertised for sale at all our local booksellers' establishments. It is undoubtedly clever, witty, and although somewhat severe on tbe failings of weak humauity is very pleasant reading because the sketches are drawn with such tact that the reader is so interested and amused with the descriptions of the faults and fads of " tbe otber fellow " that he does not feel tbe point of the gentle sarcasm which only tickles him. It is well worth reading, Auckland's gold export for three months ending March was valued at £93,752. The export of dairy produce from New Plymouth and Waitara for the same period amounted to .£77,065. Add to this the value of what went by rail and by way of Patea, and what it used for local consumption, and it will be seen that tbe total value of the produce will exceed Auckland's gold. Notwithstanding tbe inclemency of the weather, a good number attended the limelight exhibition given in the Volunteer Hall last night by Adjutant Perry, who is travelling on behalf of the Salvation Army. The entertainment was the best of its kind that has ever been given in Feilding, and those who braved the weather last night were well repaid for any inconvenience. A large number of views were shown, and the continuous bursts of applause from the audience showed they were well appreciated. The best items of the evening were the recitations, by the Adjutant, of " The Signalman " and " Jane Conquest, and how she Rang the Bell," which were illustrated by views during the recitation. The latter, with its various side effects — such as the sound of the surf on the shore in tbe distance, tbe tolling of the village church bell, thunder, lightning, &c.,— was perhaps the most thrilling, and the audience were held spell-bound during the recitations. To-night is the last night of the season, when " Jane Conquest " will he repeated, and a number of views of Coolgardie and the goldfields will be shown. A large attendance may be expected.
