The Trade of the Colonies.
(Per Press Association.) Sydney, This Day. The Government statistician has prepared a report dealing with the trade of Australasia for 1895. The total value of imports was .£50,764,000, an increase of 4^,983,000 on the figures for the previous , year. The exports amounted to £64,---080,000, an increase in domestic exports of _>320,000, and in re exports of 4910,---000. The combined import and export trade of the colonies is valued as follows : New South Wales ...£37,927,000 Victoria 27,020,000 New Zealand ... 14,056,000 Queensland 14,331,000 South Australia ... 13,033,000 West Australia ... 5,107,000 Tasmania ... .- 2,467,000 Compared with the previous year, the trade of New South Wales increased 4-25 per cent.; Victoria, 1.97; West Australia, 51.57, chiefly due to the large expansion of imports ; Queensland, 23-32 in imports, and 2-13 in exports ; while the trade of South Australia decreased 5.19 ; • Tasmania, 005; New Zealand, 6.24. , The report states that the export of domestic produce by Tasmania and New Zealand shows a lamentable falling off— in the case of Tasmania to the extent of I 11-21, and New Zealand 757. Tbe total trade of Australasia increased 2*90 as compared with 1894, as against a fall of 6-70 in 1893.
