Census Returns.
The local census enumerator has preprepared a rough statement of the population of Wellington borough, which is given at 37,432 ; an increase on the previous return of 6267. (Per Press Association.) Wellington, This Day. Census returns — Birkeuhead, 690 ; New Plymouth, 8825; Kaiapoi, 1824; Marton, 1151 ; Palmerston N., 5886 ; South Invercargill, 1886 ; East luvercargill, 954 ; Naseby, 447. Palmerston shows an increase of 1583 ; and all the rest show an increase except Naseby, which has gone back 49. New Plymonth and Kaiapoi have extended their boundaries since 1894. The counfcieß Patangata (2663) and East Tanpo (237) both show an increase.
