--:■-.. :: . o Thursday, April 23rd, 1896. (Before District Judge Kettle.) IN BANKRUPTCY. In re William Goodwin. — Sarah Ann Goodwin was called upon to show cause why she should not refund certain moneys expended on her property by her husband within two years before his bankruptcy. Mr Hanking appeared for the D.0.A., and Mr Fitzherbert for Mr Goodwin. Thomas. B. Dwan deposed to the purchase of some property at Bangi-* wahia from him by Mrs Goodwin. Thomas Jar vis, sawmill owner, deposed that the bankrupt procured some timber from him in 1894. The timber was delivered to. Goodwin's son, £10^ had been paid on account by bankrupt" himself. ; , v Geo. L. Lay deposed that he supplied Goodwin with iron and other materials . which were used on a building at ' Rangiwabia, at a cost of .£3B 13s. Of this amount nothing bad been paid by bankrupt himself. Witness had had chaff to the value of £4 from the. Goodwins, and Mrs Goodwin had paid £2 14s, and given him a bill for £19. Alf. Millward deposed that he built for Goodwin a stable with a hall over it at Rangiwahia at 9s per day. Was paid by Goodwin, whom he had to sue for a portion of the amount. There . were three other men employed on the job. Took all his orders from Goodwin. Witness also acted as architect. The cost of the building would be about £250. It was built by day labor. William Goodwin deposed that he purchased timber from Lowes and Jarvis, for which he paid £10, giving bills for the balance, £42 12s 4d. Witness ordered from Lay the roofing iron, sashes, etc Should say the hall cost him about £130. To Mr Fitzherbert — Since he met with an accident in November, 1894, bad not been able to do any work, and . had also suffered from loss of memory. During his illness his wife disposed of several head of stock belonging to her. One banking account only was used by witness and his family.. The proceeds of tho sale of stock went into witness' account. Just, before the .bankruptcyLay accepted a bill from Mrs Goodwin for material used in the building. Witness and his wife attempted to raise sufficient money to pay £40 to the D.O.A. as had been arranged, but had not had time. Was quite willing to carry out the arrangement. The case was then adjourned to ten o'clock this morning to permit of certain documents being produced. — Standard. ■ . ■,
