Mr J. H. Hankins, president of the Mauawatu Rugby Union, is presenting tbe Union with a challenge shield for competition amongst the senior teams. The Pohangina Football Club opened the season with a scratch match on Saturday last on tbe township reserve. Sides wero picked by J. Johnston (capt.) and A. Adsett (vice-captain), About twenty-five members were present. In the first spell A. Adsett scored two tries, and Johnston got over twice for his side, none of the tries being converted.
