Tho first day's races of the above meetiug, which takes place on Easter Monday, has all along promised to be a big day, there bciug a good number of horses in town, owners finding it hard to get loose boxes. Tho weather is the only diawback to" the meeting, as was the case last year, and even if it was to be a fine day the course would be heavy, and we would have to look amongst the light wcightand mud plungers for the winners. Eleven horses have accepted for the Handicap. The company engaged is of a very good order and should result in a good race. Ngatuere has proved himself a very consistent performer but I do not faucy his chauce with his weight (Bsfc 111 b) and the same may be said of Pompom. Lotiou aud Flying Shot may fiud the distauce too much. After Aio's performance in the Napier Cup and other races I hold her show second to none. Of the others Ebor and Princess Cole should be worth watching and if the going be heavy Swift's chance appears to" be very good.
