"GOD'S ACRE."
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — Mr Gould's letter in re tbe above subject is satisfactory as far as it goes, bat it does not go far enough. Since I wrote you last, the gentleman who owns tbe trespassing sheep and the land around the cemetery, bas assured me he had always given strict injunctions Jbo his men never to allow the sheep to get in tbe cemetery, that they took every precaution to keep them out, also, that'tbe sheep did not get in from " his side." Besides, his men had often repaired the Borough Council's side of tbe cemetery fence. These facts show conclusively that there has been neglect, and I feel sure tbat public feeling once aroused, should not, and will not, rest satisfied until the suggestion made by you. sir, and myself, is faithfully carried out, i.e., at their first meeting the Borough Council authorise the Cemetery Committee to put a strong and substantial fence all round " God's Acre" which will be proof against sheep, etc. I am, etc , Wm. Franklin-Browne. Feilding, April Ist, 1896.
