The Matabele Rising.

MORE KILLING OF WHITES. (Per Press Association) Capetown, March 27. Seven whites have bees killed at Matopp Hills and four others are missing. The rest of the settlers took refuge in laagers and thus preserved their lives. The rising was caused by a -witch doctor. The mountain patrol engaged the rebels near Buluwayo, the former losing seven men. The Selous are taking a strong force to punish the natives. Sir Hercules Robinson has sent reinforcements of police to Bulawayo. Mr Rhodes is hastening to Bulawayo. Several white settlers in the outlaying districts have been killed and their bodies fearfully mutilated. It is now stated that the orders given for the eradication of the Binderpest excited the Matabel© and caused the rising. The native police induced the rising, and deserted with 700 rifles. Since the outbreak Capt. Spreckby and Mr Selous have twice defeated the rebels, with considerable loss. March 29. Further risings have taken place in Matabeleland.
