(Per Press Association). Auckland, March 26. At a meeting of the Crown Land Board, cases of alleged dummyism at Awakino and Tauranga were reported. They are to be enquired into. Some tenants of lands are to be prosecuted for arrears of rent. The residence of Mr Henry Welsh, farmer, Huntly, has been destroyed by fire, At the time of the outbreak the members of the family were away milking. It is not known bow the fire I originated. The building was insured for .£l5O and the furniture £15 in the Alliance. The property destroyed was worth £400. A native named Panapa has been committed for trial for breaking and entering at the Kawakawa Hotel. Lately there have been two burglaries there. A trap was set, composed of a native dye, in the bar. The result was the Maori got his feet; smeared with the dye, thus leading to his detection. Two seaman of the Rakaia were fined i-25 for smuggling cigars. One was fined i! 25 and six months for obstruction, and another £4 19s and costs, or a month. This Day. Mr Button, M.H.R. received a vote of thanks and confidence from his constituents. Wellington, March 27. The relief fund committee has refused to make any alteration in their rates of payment to the unemployed. The wages will remain at tbe old amounts, 3s, 4s and 5s At present, however, there are only four men who get as low as 3s. Christchurch, March 27. A girl named Essie Mitchell, 14 years of age, while attempting to jump off the Sumnor tram at Woolston this morning fell under the wheels of the last car, receiving injuries from which she died almost immediately. j
