THE SUGAR DUTIES. (Per Press Association.) Melbourne, This Day. The Port Henry boating accident was less serious than was feared. The boat which foundered was the Pearl, the only occupant being a fisherwoman named Hederick, who was rescued after clinging to the vessel for five hours. Thursday Island, March 28. Lord Lamingtou, the new Governor of Queensland, arrived by the steamer India. He was officially welcomed and entertained, and cheered by large crowds. Sydney, March 28. A monster deputation, representing the sugar interests, will shortly approach the Premier to endeavour to secure a revocation of the proposal to gradually extinguish the sugar duties. The Sugar Company affirms that if the duties arc abolished it will mean the extinction of the trade as far as this colony is concerned
