Kiwitea County Council.

The following is the concluding portion of the meeting of the above Council after we went to press on Saturday : — Correspondence was read from — Chas. Filton, stating that he was sending down a petition in support of increased representation in the Apiti ridJ. McNeil, asking the Council to give him an outlet to section 13, Block IV. W. F. Stanley, applying to have the name of E. C. Stanley placed on the rate roll for section 5, Block IX. J. Stevens, M.H.R., forwarding copy of letter received from Minister of Lands re grant of £250 towards metalling Kimbolton road. Thomas A. Bryce, suggesting that some attention be paid to Bryce's road which has been in need of repair for some time, and also stating that there is a metal pit quite close on his property where the necessary metal could be got. Board Surveyor, stating that there is no objection to the Council using the £250 exactly, only that the Council must submit tenders to that amount to the Department and the length of metalling to be done. Feilding Borough Council to W. F. Jacob, chairman Kiwitea County Council, stating that that Council proposed to officially open the Kiwitea bridge, Feilding, on Wednesday next, the 25th inst., and that they would be pleased to sec him and other members of the Council present, and also that the ceremony would take place at 3 o'clock, and that there would not be a banquet. A petition from the Apiti riding signed by a number of ratepayers re work in that riding was received. ResolvQd, That tho name of Edward C. Stanley be placed on the rate roll for section 5, Block IX, Apiti, in place of William F. Stanley. Proposed by Cr Jacob, seconded by Cr Williamson, That for the payment of , interest at 5 per cent, for 26 years on a loan of £6000, to be borrowed under the , Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886, for construction of works in the , Ongo riding, and that a special rate of f four-fifths of a penny iv the £be levied on the different sections in the several : blocks, payable on the first days of April and October in each year, be agreed to. — Carried. Proposed by Cr Homer, seconded by Cr Jacob, That the secretary be hereby ■ authorised to sign the agreement re rej pairs to Kimbolton road, provided pro- • posals made are approved of. — Carried. Proposed by Cr Homer, seconded by Cr Reid, that the Engineer be instructed to get the road made passable to the sections of C. ' Proposed by Cr Homer, seconded "by J Cr Morton, That the rangers be instrnc- ' ted that unless they attend to their duty in a better manner the Council will have to appoint others in their places. — Carried. 1 After some considerable discussion j with reference to dividing the Apiti rid- ' ing into two, it was ultimately resolved " — That the necessary steps be taken to divide the Apiti riding into two ridings with one member each, the division line 1 to be the Peep-o'-Day and Gorge roads, and that a committee, consisting of Crs Shannon, Reid, Williamson, and the Chairman, bring down a scheme at next meeting for dividing the Ongo and Hautapu ridings into three ridings, with one member each. Proposed by Cr Reid, seconded by Cr Homer, That tenders be called to widen Northern road, leading to Pakihikura > stream, the Hautape riding contributing two-tbirds, and the Ongo riding onethird of the coat. — Carried. Proposed by Cr Reid, seconded by Cr Homer, That tenders be called, to be in by next meeting, to widen Otara road to 14 feet between tbe Bluff and Mr McGregor's bouse. — Carried. Proposed by Cr Reid, seconded by Cr Homer, That the Engineer lay off work to the besu advantage to the amount of £40 on Waipura road, from Waipura stream westward along Waipura road. — Carried. The following tenders were received for the different works on the Council's, roads :■- For stumping and clearing and erect, ing rough bridge on Mangatikei road : — John Mclntosh at £27 7s (accepted) ; B. Poole £59 10s ; G. F. Hunt £105 ; Jobson and Prestland £39 10s ; J. J. Fitzgerald £44 ; C. McColl £54. For the supply and delivery of gravel in various parts of the County. The following tenders were accepted : — No. 1, Jas. Sykes at 3s 3d per yard ; No. 2, las., Sykes at 5s perygrd ; No. 3, C-Mcffroy 3s 8d per ,"No. 4>JUBin>'2s 8d per yard , fto. 5, F. Rink 2s per yard ; No. 6, P. Poole, 2s per yard ; No. 7, Jas. Sykes •2s per yard. Tenders were received as follows for the Stipply and delivery of a.baut 800 cubic yards of gravel on the Kimbolton road north of Kiwitea Cross road :— No 1 contract — Jas. Shapleski 7s 6d per yard, D. Scally 4s 9d per yard ; Mcllroy 4s 9d per yard ; C. McColl 3s lid per yard. No 2 contract— Reforming and metalling 30 chains, Jas. Shapleski £6 17s 6d per chain or 7s per yard ; C. McColl' £93 19s 2d for whole, or 3s 6d per yardNo 3, reforming and ditphing abput 50 chains— W. Warren 14s per chain ;J. C. Bengemain 12s 6d per chain (acpepted.). For trimming and metalling about J2 phains Northern lipe— B. Pools £3? J6s } Mctlroy £2 253, d (accepted); J. Mclntosh *'3Hsqd. It was resolved that the following tenders be accepted subject to Captain Turner's approval. — For metalling on Kimbolton road, C. McColl 700 yds 3s lid per yard ; rpformiug aad iiiptalliug 30 chains £98 I^3 2d for whole of 3s 6d uer yard, aud the balance of grant to be expended between . Mr Stent's and the Whare road by the Engineer. After passing accounts for payment the Council adjourned.
