COLYTON V. BIRMINGHAM.

One of the most interesting and keenly contested matches of the season was fought out on Saturday for the senior Championship by the above clubs. There was a very good attendance of spectators, who wore as much interested as the players. Colyton went to bat first, the Barlow brothers handling tbe leather for Birmingham, but tbe Colyton batsmen Avere intent on making a good stand, and Birmingham had to change their bowling, giving no less than eight a trial, of whom W. Barlow and G. Shannon were the most effective, taking three wickets each. J. Entwisle was the highest scorer for Col}ton, making 24. Ihe onty other double figures were Simpson 19, and D. Entwisle 12, the innings closing for 87. Birmingham then went in, and. facing tbe bowling of tbe well-known Entwisle brothers, were all disposed of for 58, W. Hedges 18, and J. Johnston 11, being the only ones to make a stand. In Colyton's second innings, Barlow Bros, disposed of them for 30. Birmingham again faced the wickets with 69 to win, but the Entwisle Bros. were dead on, and live were soon disposed of for 17 runs, wben Tompkius went in and things changed a little, the runs coming quicker, but the remainder of the team could not make a stand, and the innings closed for 50, Tompkins carrying his bat for 23 after a gallant attempt to score a win for bis side, leaving Colyton to win tbe championship after one of the best games of the season, by nine runs. Cheers were given for the different clubs, umpires, winners of the championship, captains, and three hearty ones for the ladies who provided the afternoon tea. The following are the scores : —
