The House of Representatives, by a majority of 109 votes, carried a vote of censure on Mr Bayard for his recent utterances in England, reflecting on the domestic policy of the United States. The division was taken on party lines. It is expected that the resolution will be void, as it is thought President Cleveland will ignore it. Mr Bayard has no intention of resigning.
