Stout, in reply to some statements made by the Premier in his Iloki- 1 tika speech, says he never admitted the '. Pine Company had broken the Truck Act. j The Company did carry on the store | many years ago, but there was no violation ot the law, and he so stated with re- 1 pect to the employment of Chinamen by 1 the Round Hill Sludge Company, which < he supposes is the company alluded to. ] Sir Robert Stout says he is nominally the local director, but since 1893 he has taken no part in the management. This is the first he has heard of the statement. Some i Chinamen might have got a contract for cutting a race, etc., but if so it is without , his knowledge or concent. i
