N.Z. Rifle Association Meeting.
(Per Press Association.) Oamaku, This Day. The rifle meeting opened at 11 o'clock this morning with glorious weather and a fresh easterly breeze. The entries number 254, including 40 from Australia. About 300 or 400 people were present. ! The first shot will be fired at 11.30. ! The Mayoress fired the Ist shot bring- \ ing up the inner disc. Major Sommerville welcomed the Australians, and thanked the Oamaru resi- \ dents for. their generosity. The Hon. Hall- Jones said the Defence ; Minister was unable to be present, be- J ing detained by important business. i He assured the Association the Govern- ] ment fully recognised the necessity of s maintaining the high efficiency as marks- ] men and that the Association could i rest assured this would not be the last < meeting as had been reported. He \ welcomed the Australians, and hoped t New Zealand would shortly return the \ visit, and also send a team to Bisley. c The Nelson match at three ranges, not counting for the belt, is proceeding i and will not be finished until close on » five o'clock. t ' ' ' V
