A New Zealand Champion.
Sydney, March G. A boxing match for the championship of the world and a large stake has taken in Mexico between Robert Fitzsirnmons, of New Zealand, and Peter Maher, the Irish champion. The title of champion of the world was recenty handed over by James Corbett, on his retirement, to Maher. The contest was of short duration. Fitzsimmons forced matters from the start, and soon had his opponent in difficulties. After a few minute's boxing Maher was unable to come up to time, and Fitzsimmons was declared winner. Frank Slavin, the Australian boxer, at present in London, has challenged Fitijsimmons fo. £1000 a-side. — Post.
